Free
...from Digital ID
This morning I dug up a poem I drafted back in the “Test and Trace” days of ‘20-’21. Remember the hue and cry from the mainstream media about the waste of money? I have no doubt a load of it was bunged to government chums and much was wasted, but I always felt that a more worrying portion of it was being invested in the control grid. And now here we are.
My friends, this is NOT a great poem (sorry. If I had a dash more pride I wouldn’t publish it) but it does contain a message whose day has come. And today, for the first time in a very long time, I see unity across political divides in the public reaction to the Digital ID announcement. May this be the unifying issue. And may it be resisted with all we’ve got.
By the way, I like the ‘I’m off!’ vibe of this photo. My thanks to Andreas Goellner on Pixabay for the free usage.
FREE
We are free.
We must be –
we live in “A Free Country”.
We have “The Right to Roam”.
But…
Stay Home! came the decree
and the obedient majority
did so unquestioningly.
We are free.
We each have a choice
over which voice to heed,
which principles we will and will not believe.
But…
in public, in reality,
vested views may be expressed
while questioning will be suppressed;
do not dare to challenge the official creed.
You are free
to speak your mind.
But…
really, you should probably
choose your words carefully.
You might well find
access declined
if you dispute the orthodoxy.
You are free
to use your common sense.
But…
don’t back it up with evidence
that spoils the authorised story.
Do not cause offence
to the Powers That Be.
We are still free (aren’t we?)
to disagree,
to protest peacefully.
But…
we must restrict ourselves
to the permitted times
in officially mandated spaces,
our faces photographed and filed
by secretive authority.
Yet we are free – surely? –
to do anything if we can pay the fee.
But…
have you tried recently
to spend your own money?
Payment denied “for your security”.
Proof required of your identity.
Use the app, tap your phone,
leave your sovereign cash at home,
only make transactions that the bank can see.
Pay the fee digitally!
Verify your ID!
Park there! Stand here!
Don’t get too near!
Pay the fee digitally!
Verify your ID!
Move in the approved direction.
Follow orders, ask no questions.
Pay the fee digitally!
Verify your ID!
Share your medical history
to access society.
Pay the fee digitally!
Verify your ID!
Ditch your anonymity.
You have no right to privacy.
Pay the fee digitally!
Verify your ID!
But…
we remain free to see.
And what we see, what we know, what we feel,
what is and always has been real
will always be so.
We must not lose our true humanity
to the fear of the force
of this deadening technology.
Let us not let this be.
Please,
let us not let this be.
